🎮 Editor Controls
Open the GUI with K (Default):
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Left Click (LMB) | drag a widget |
| Right Click (RMB) | open its settings (background, size, mode, and widget-specific options) |
| Middle Click (MMB) | show or hide widget |
| Scroll Wheel | cycle through display modes (or scroll the side panel's list if you're hovering it) |
| Ctrl+Z | undo your last move, toggle, or setting change |
| Side Panel | click any row to toggle visibility instantly, scroll for more, or collapse the entire panel from the tab on its edge |
| Top Bar | quick buttons for Hide All, Grid Snap, Reset (with confirmation), Profiles, Durability Warning toggle, Show-Hidden toggle, F3-Hide toggle. Hover any of them for a tooltip |
Prefer the mouse wheel over precision clicking? Every widget's settings popup also has its own Visible toggle, so you never have to rely on the scroll wheel or middle click alone.
📊 Widgets & Modes
Scroll over a widget in the editor to cycle its mode. Right-click it for everything else.
🛡️ Armor - four flavors
- Armor (Classic) - the original all-in-one column (helmet → boots → main hand). Settings let you hide the hand item entirely and choose which side the durability text sits on.
- Armor (Top) - just helmet + chestplate, with an optional hand item (main / off / both) placed above or below.
- Armor (Bottom) — just leggings + boots, same hand-item options as above.
- Armor (Hotbar Style) — armor pieces drawn as a row of fake hotbar slots next to your real one. Choose between bordered "slot" style or plain icons, show durability as a percent or a raw number above each slot, and add either or both hands as extra slots.
All four share the same durability display modes (current/max, current only, percentage), keep a proper empty gap where a piece is missing instead of everything sliding together, and can be freely combined — split your armor into Top + Bottom, or run Classic alongside the Hotbar style, whatever fits your HUD.
🎯 Target HP
Looking at a mob or player shows their current health as a clean number — nothing else on screen, just the number.
🔄 Angle / Rotation
- Yaw — horizontal look angle (e.g.
168.4) - Pitch — vertical look angle (e.g.
-24.3) - Combined — both at once (e.g.
168.4 / -24.3)
📍 Coordinates (XYZ)
- Mode 1: Colored X/Y/Z
- Mode 2: Labeled (X: 100 Y: 64 Z: -500)
- Mode 3: Nether Converter — Overworld coords + their Nether equivalent, side by side
🧪 Potion Effects — with levels
- Mode 1: Icon, full name + effect level (II, III...), timer underneath
- Mode 2: Compact — icon + timer only
- Infinite effects show
∞instead of a countdown - Settings let you put the timer/name text on either side of the icon — icons stay flush in a straight column no matter how long the names get — and optionally hide vanilla's own top-right potion icons so you're not seeing them twice
⚡ FPS & CPS
- FPS: plain number / labeled / full readout — current FPS, rolling average, and a proper 0.1% low (the average of your worst 0.1% of frames — the number that actually tells you when you're stuttering)
- CPS: total clicks, or split left/right
❤️🍗 HP / Food / Saturation
- Mode 1: Full label (
20 HP) - Mode 2: Digits only, no label
- Mode 3: Heart / drumstick icon paired with the number
⏰ Clock
- Mode 1: Your system clock
- Mode 2: In-game world time
🧭 Compass
- Mode 1: Cardinal letter (N/S/E/W)
- Mode 2: Exact bearing in degrees
🌍 Biome
Shows the name of the biome under your feet.
💡 Light Level
The actual, time-of-day-adjusted light value - the same number the game checks before deciding a mob can spawn where you're standing. Green = safe, yellow = risky, red = start building walls.
📶 Ping
Server latency, color-coded by how bad it is.
🏃 Speed
Live blocks/second, updates smoothly while moving.
🛡️ Armor Points + Toughness
The exact numbers behind your armor icons, including toughness - useful when comparing gear that looks identical on the bar.
⏱️ Session Timer
How long you've been playing since you joined.
🎒 Also Included
- Inventory Space - free slots left in your main inventory
- Offhand Counter - total count of that item across your whole inventory (great for totems, rockets, ender pearls)
- Low-Durability Warning - an action-bar warning (with optional sound) when your gear is about to break, on a threshold you set. Toggle it on/off right from the editor's top bar.
💾 Profiles
Set your layout up exactly how you like it, save it as a profile from the top bar, and switch between as many setups as you want – PvP layout, building layout, whatever – with one click. Nothing gets overwritten until you tell it to. Want to share a setup with a friend instead of saving it locally? Copy it to your clipboard as text and send it straight into Discord. They paste it back in and they're done.
🔧 Commands
/hbw reset- reset the whole layout back to default/hbw calc <expression>- simple calculator/calcu <expression>- alternative command

Forge 1.20.1 and Fabric 1.20.1
New widgets (hidden by default, enable them in the editor)
Air: remaining air in seconds. Text, number, icon + number or bar mode. Visibility: always, or only while the value is changing.
XP: experience level. The bar mode also shows progress to the next level.
Armor Toughness: now a separate widget. Armor Points shows armor only, and both have an icon + number mode. If your old layout had Armor Points visible, Toughness turns on right below it.
Temperature: ambient temperature, calculated only from vanilla data (biome temperature, cooling with altitude). White in the comfortable range, blue when cold, orange to red when hot. °C or °F.
Food and Saturation
Eating preview: holding food shows a blinking "+N" for hunger and saturation gain. In bar mode it also draws a blinking ghost segment. It works without AppleSkin.
Saturation now has 4 modes: text, number, icon + number and bar, using a gold-tinted vanilla drumstick.
Widget styling
New Frame option on every widget: none, four L-shaped corners, or a full border. Color and size are adjustable.
Visibility "only when changing" for all stat widgets.
Durability at 100% is now shown as a green ✓ (armor widgets, Armor Hotbar, Held Item).
Vanilla HUD hiding
Each widget's settings have "Hide vanilla: …" checkboxes for what it replaces (hearts, hunger, armor, air, XP, effects, item name).
New Style → Vanilla HUD window with 13 toggles: hearts, armor, hunger, air, mount health, XP, jump bar, hotbar, item name, effect icons, crosshair, scoreboard, boss bars.
Editor
Hovering a widget zooms it smoothly and draws it above all others. While dragging, it stays at its final size.
New Style → Preview autofill: an empty widget being dragged shows sample content (armor, potion effects, held item, eating preview).
Removed the bottom hint bar.
Fixes
Widget name labels no longer show through the settings menus.
Frames no longer hide under the widget background.
Old configs still load; new options use defaults.

## Added
- Style window** in the editor (new "Style" button):
- background level and background color (6 tints)
- border style (none / outline / accent bar)
- rounded corners
- text shadow toggle
- accent color
- global size
- durability warning threshold and sound
- Per-widget overrides** in the right-click menu: text color, background color and shadow.
- Continuous size sliders** from 0.5x to 3.0x for both per-widget and global size.
- Smart alignment guides** and snapping to the edges and centers of other widgets while dragging. Hold Shift to disable.
- Arrow-key nudging** of the selected widget: 1px per press, 8px with Shift. The selected widget is highlighted.
- 6 new widgets** (hidden by default): Keystrokes (WASD, space and mouse buttons with CPS), Held Item, Item Counter (totems, pearls, golden apples and more), Target Block, Memory and Day Counter.
- HP and Food widgets:** new progress-bar mode with a green-to-red gradient.
- Compass:** new mode with 8 directions and degrees.
- Clock:** 12h/24h format and optional seconds.
- XYZ:** 0–2 decimals.
- Speed:** m/s, km/h or blocks per tick.
- Mirror layout** option for Held Item and Item Counter.
- Localization:** all new strings translated into all 6 languages (en, ru, be, uk, es, hi).
## Improved
- Armor widgets** (all variants) and **Potions:**
- true mirrored layout with icons flush against the right edge
- accent bar switches to the right side when mirrored
- uniform row widths
- stable column width, so icons don't shift as durability digits or effects change
- Editor:**
- widget labels are drawn above the widgets on a dark backing
- the hint bar sits on a solid backing and fades out when the mouse is over it
- the top bar adapts to narrow windows
- Config:** all new settings are saved and exported/imported with layouts and profiles. Old configs load unchanged.
## Fixed
- Global scale ≠ 1.0:** editor hitboxes and screen-edge clamping now match what is actually drawn.
- Armor rows:** items without durability no longer get an undersized background box.
- XYZ:** coordinates now round down like F3, so negative values were previously off by 1.
## There may be errors
### UI & Design Improvements
- Overhauled Control Buttons (
HIDE ALL,GRID: ON,HIDDEN: SHOW):** - Updated colors to a softer palette (Soft Red
#E63946, Soft Green#A7C957). - Center-aligned button text.
- Replaced all-caps text with a cleaner title format (*Hide all*, *Grid: on/off*, etc.).
- Fixed text overflowing out of button borders (resolving issue present in the Belarusian translation).
- Added hover tooltips explaining what each button does when paused over them.
- Scrollbar Added:** Added a scrollbar to the right-hand column containing the widget list for easier navigation.
- Proper Alignment Options:** Fixed Left/Right alignment logic for widgets supporting side-swapping icons or text (e.g., Potion Effects).
- New Default Preset Scheme:** Locked in the new standard default widget layout.
### New Widgets & Customization
- Target HP Widget:** Displays current health for mobs/players you are looking at as a clean numeric value.
- Angle/Rotation Widgets:**
- Pitch (Y-Axis):** Displays vertical look angle (e.g.,
-24.3). - Yaw (X/Z-Axis):** Displays horizontal rotation angle (e.g.,
168.4). - Combined Angle:** Displays both axes at once (e.g.,
168.4 / -24.3).
- Compact Food/HP Displays:** Added a 3rd display mode showing a single icon (Heart/Drumstick) paired with a numeric value.
- Expanded Widget Scaling:** Adding finer/more size options across all widgets *(currently experimental)*.
### Utilities & QoL
- Text-Based Profile Sharing:** Import and export layout presets as plain text strings via clipboard button—share your HUD configurations directly in Discord without messing with config files!
- Armor Widget Fix:** Empty armor slots will now maintain proper spacing/gaps to match the Hotbar layout behavior.
- Undo Support (
Ctrl + Z):** Easily revert your last widget move/drag action.
### Bug Fixes
- F3 Screen Overlap:** Fixed an issue where widgets rendered over the debug menu. Opening
F3will now cleanly hide the entire HUD_BW interface. - Port Durability Bar Glitch:** Fixed rendering layer depth issues on specific port versions where item textures overlapped durability bars (durability bars will now properly render above items).
HUD_MUD is dead, long live **HUD BW**. This isn't a patch, it's a rewrite — same spirit, way more polish.
## New Widgets
- Biome** — shows the name of whatever biome you're standing in
- Light Level** — the *actual* number the game uses to decide if a zombie can spawn on your face at night, not just a static "is the sky visible" reading
- Ping** — server latency, color-coded
- Speed** — live blocks/second while you sprint, elytra, or ride
- Armor Points + Toughness** — the exact numbers behind your armor bar
- Session Timer** — how long you've been playing this session
## Potions Got a Glow-Up
No more plain text. Effects now render with their actual vanilla icons, name up top, timer underneath — same info, way easier to read at a glance. Scroll on it for a compact icon-only mode.
## Editor, Rebuilt
- New side-panel widget list — click to hide/show instead of hunting for a 10px hitbox
- Grid snap** for clean alignment (hold Shift to move freely)
- Global HUD scale** — 0.75x to 1.5x, for 4K monitors or "I'm old and my eyes hurt" monitors alike
- One-click reset back to defaults
## Fixed
- Backgrounds now hug the actual text instead of sitting behind it as a fixed gray slab — HP, FPS, CPS, Clock, Compass, and more all got the biome-style treatment
- Durability warnings now have a configurable threshold and an optional sound, instead of firing blind at a hardcoded 10%
## Under the Hood
- Full rewrite onto Fabric API's current HUD layer system (the old one was already deprecated)
- CPS tracking swapped to a proper queue instead of scanning a list every tick
- Calculator now understands
^,%,sqrt,sin/cos/tan,log/ln,pi,e - New commands:
/hbw editor,/hbw reset,/hbw calc—/calcustill works if you're used to it - Old 2.x configs migrate automatically, your layout survives the update
TL;DR: everything you liked about 2.1 still works, it just doesn't look like it was drawn in MS Paint anymore.
