Boralances Cinematic is an atmospheric Minecraft Java shaderpack built around detailed lighting, expressive weather, realistic-looking materials and cinematic post-processing. It transforms familiar landscapes with moving foliage, reflective water, illuminated fog and skies that change with the time of day. The pack gives each dimension its own visual character. The Overworld features natural skies and changing weather, the Nether emphasizes heat and glowing volcanic environments, and the End introduces a mysterious celestial atmosphere with an optional black hole. Its effects are highly configurable, with four quality presets and individual controls for lighting, clouds, water, weather, materials and camera effects.

  • Enhanced lighting and colored glass Screen-space global illumination adds simulated bounce light to visible surfaces, helping illuminated interiors feel warmer and more connected to their surroundings. Ambient occlusion and contact shadows add definition where blocks meet. Nearby glass can filter sampled local light, allowing stained glass to influence the color of illumination around visible emitters. Colored shadow filtering also affects sunlight passing through glass.
  • Volumetric fog and godrays World-space fog and light shafts add depth to forests, mountains, caves and underwater scenes. Shadow sampling allows terrain and other obstacles to interrupt the shafts, creating beams through openings instead of applying a uniform glow across the screen. Fog responds to weather and daylight, with adjustable density and sampling quality.
  • Detailed skies and layered clouds Two procedural cloud layers combine dense lower clouds with softer upper formations. Atmospheric scattering creates warm horizon colors, softer sunset transitions and deeper nighttime skies. Optional auroras, a Milky Way band, moon phases, shooting stars and twilight cloud illumination add variety after dark. Cloud height, movement and quality can be adjusted.
  • Reflective, animated water Multiple wave layers create broad swells and smaller ripples. Water combines reflections, refraction and depth-dependent absorption, keeping shallow areas clearer while deeper water shifts toward darker blue and green tones. Underwater caustics, light shafts, shoreline foam and rain-driven surface ripples add detail. Biome tinting and adjustable turbidity provide additional control over the water’s appearance.
  • Rain, storms and wet surfaces Rain adds a wet sheen to exposed surfaces, with smoother highlights and reflective puddle effects. Animated impact ripples bring puddles and water surfaces to life during rainfall. Storm shading changes the atmosphere and wind response, while supported lightning inputs drive brief flashes. Camera rain beads and a fading water film after leaving water provide optional immersion effects.
  • Snow and cold environments Snow receives specialized shading, subtle sparkle and simulated light scattering to soften its appearance under daylight. Ice uses adjustable reflective material behavior and procedural frost detail. An optional screen effect adds a cold, frosted appearance while inside powder snow.
  • Waving vegetation Leaves, grass and supported plants move with animated wind and gusts. Plant roots remain anchored, while taller vegetation bends above the ground. Foliage translucency allows backlit leaves and grass to appear softer and brighter when viewed against the light.
  • Animated lava and Nether atmosphere Lava uses slow surface movement, changing normals and emissive shading to suggest a thick, molten surface. Heat shimmer adds distortion around lava and tagged hot materials. Nether fog, floating embers and atmospheric effects reinforce the dimension’s volcanic appearance. An optional fading lens effect appears after leaving lava.
  • Custom End visuals The End features its own sky treatment, celestial patterns and atmospheric coloring. Optional constellation-like details and a black-hole effect create a distinctive background for End islands and structures. These effects have dedicated settings, allowing the dimension’s appearance to be tuned independently.
  • Material and resource-pack support Normal mapping and optional parallax occlusion mapping add apparent surface detail when suitable resource-pack textures are available. Roughness and material information influence reflections and highlights. Dedicated fallback shading gives copper, oxidized copper, amethyst and ice their own surface characteristics, while allowing supported resource-pack material data to take priority.
  • Cinematic post-processing ACES-style tone mapping and adjustable color grading shape the final image. Bloom softens bright light sources, while optional anamorphic glow, lens dirt and lens flare add camera-inspired effects. Temporal anti-aliasing reduces jagged edges and shimmering. Optional depth of field, motion blur, film grain, sharpening and chromatic aberration let you customize the image for gameplay, screenshots or cinematic scenes. Four quality presets provide convenient starting points. High FPS reduces sample counts and disables several expensive effects. Performance balances atmosphere with lower rendering costs. Balanced provides the default feature mix, while Cinematic increases quality budgets and enables additional camera effects. Individual settings remain available for further adjustment. Version-specific builds target Minecraft Java 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.11 and 26.3. The available loader routes include Iris, supported OptiFine versions and Oculus/Embeddium for 1.20.1. The 26.3 build targets Iris with OpenGL.
