Colorful Armor Bar
I'm in dire need of a better description system
Colorful Armor Bar shows the armor you wear in your HUD. Diamond, netherite, leather, and supported modded armor can each have their own icons. The mod runs on the client; servers do not need it.
The visual idea was inspired by Detail Armor Bar. Colorful Armor Bar uses resource packs for armor icons, so a pack can add an icon for a modded armor material without a code change.

Features
- Mixed armor: The bar shows the materials you wear, including two materials in one icon when their armor points meet.
- Leather dye colors: Leather icons use the color of the dyed armor.
- Automatic colors for modded armor: If an armor material has no custom icon, the mod samples the average color of the item’s texture. It applies that color to an iron-style icon while keeping the icon’s shading.
- Armor trims: Trim marks use the trim material’s color. Amethyst, diamond, and emerald trims can also have a pulsing highlight.
- Enchantment glint: Enchanted armor shows a glint. Minecraft’s Accessibility settings control its speed and strength.
- Animated changes: Icons move or wipe into place when the armor bar changes.
- Damage and repair feedback: A brief red pulse shows damage. A cyan pulse shows repairs, including Mending.
- Resource pack support: Packs can replace armor icons and trim marks or add icons for modded armor.
- Client-side: The server does not need the mod.

Some modded armor icons we pre-added (gotta fix up the robe from immersive armor)

Configuration

The client config is stored in config/colorful_armor_bar.json5. You can also open it in-game through Mod Menu on Fabric or the Mods screen on Forge and NeoForge. Saved changes apply immediately.
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
group_matching_armor |
false |
Combines armor points with the same appearance. The largest group appears first. |
armor_icon_animation |
true |
Animates changes to the armor icons. |
damage_pulse |
true |
Shows a red pulse when armor takes damage. |
repair_pulse |
true |
Shows a cyan pulse when armor is repaired. |
trim_glow |
true |
Adds a pulsing highlight to amethyst, diamond, and emerald trims. |
With grouping off, armor points follow worn-slot order. Leather dye colors and trim material colors still appear when their related effects are off.
Use Minecraft’s Accessibility settings to control enchantment glint speed and strength. Set glint speed to 0% to stop its movement. Set glint strength to 0% to hide it.

Add an armor icon at:
assets/<namespace>/textures/armoricon/<material_name>.png
For example:
- Diamond:
assets/minecraft/textures/armoricon/diamond.png - A ruby material from
flingleblob:assets/flingleblob/textures/armoricon/ruby.png
Armor icons must be 18 × 9 pixels. The two 9-pixel halves are used for full and half armor points. Use a white or grayscale leather icon so dye colors stay accurate.
You do not need a custom icon for every armor set. When an icon is missing, the mod checks the item’s model texture layers for an average color. If those textures are unavailable, it tries the item texture. It then colors the iron-style fallback icon. Some custom item models do not expose a texture the mod can use.
A trim pattern can have its own mark at:
assets/<namespace>/textures/armoricon/trims/<pattern>.png
For example: assets/minecraft/textures/armoricon/trims/sentry.png
If that file is missing, the mod checks assets/colorful_armor_bar/textures/armoricon/trim.png, then Minecraft’s chestplate trim texture. Trim textures can be any size. Their transparent areas define the mark; the mod applies the trim material’s color.
Support for modded armor depends on the armor item exposing a material the mod can identify.
