Defensive-Measures

Defensive Add-on is an add-on that allows players to place defensive turrets and traps to protect themselves, their creations, positions, and so on. The add-on adds Towers, Traps, Entities, Structures, Villager Variants, and Items to the game, which opens a lot of new capabilities, ideas, and creative imaginations for the players to explore.

Add-ons

Xaero's Minimap & World Map

A resource pack that adds turret icons in the minimap and world map, supporting Xaero's Minimap and World Map mods.

AI Disclosure/Transparency

This mod is not AI-generated. All content, including code, assets, and documentation, is created by the mod author and contributors. The mod development process involves human creativity, design, and programming skills.

While AI tools may be used for certain tasks, such as code formatting, code rechecking, idea generation, moral support, Fabric and Minecraft documentation lookup, and other non-creative tasks, the core development and content creation are done by humans. Listed below are all the tasks that AI tools are used for in this mod, along with what AI tools are used for each task:

Code Formatting

Built-in IDE feature (IntelliJ) for formatting and auto-completion. As the author/developer is unsure whether the IDE is using AI for the auto-completion and code suggestion, it will be added to the list of AI usage to be transparent.

Code Rechecking

Co-pilot for code rechecking and suggestions (in PRs). While Co-pilot is used to push some fixes on certain parts, the author/developer always reviews and approves the changes before merging them into the main codebase.

On some instances, Claude is also used to recheck code snippets to see if there's some better way to implement or optimize the code. There would also be times when the code will be improved by Claude and/or Gemini, but the author/developer will always review and approve the changes before merging them into the main codebase by reading each and every line and understand what's happening and if it is better than the current implementation and if the changes won't break anything or if said code is rigid.

Rigid code that is suggested by the AIs, if better than the current implementation, will be implemented and abstracted manually by the author/developer to ensure that the code is not rigid and can be easily modified in the future, and could be easily extended to add more features without breaking the current implementation.

Idea Generation

Ideas flow in naturally from the author/developer's mind. Theme checking, idea validation, and research are done by the author/developer to ensure the ideas are feasible and align with the mod's vision. One such example of a feature that's now implemented in the mod is the Anti-Tank Turret (Hawkins Grenade was raised by Gemini as a landmine suggestion alongside the M14 Toepopper).

Originally, the landmine is just a singular instance and without AT or AP classifications. The suggestion raised by Gemini allowed the author/developer to explore the idea of having a landmine that can be classified as AT or AP, which led to the separation of the AT Landmine and AP Landmine, which also opened the possibility for more AT and AP landmine variations than just a generalized landmine.

On some occasions, the author/developer would also have ideas and given that AIs are just statistical models, they could end up validating an idea proposed by the author/developer even though it is a horrible one or will have a bad execution. As such, the author/developer would go out of their way to ensure that the idea is "good" and will work well by asking for feedback through external means. One such example is an idea of implementing an advancement related to the Bloody 100th, which was, for the author/developer, sounded good (due to the dev being sleep deprived after coding for 2 days straight) but was extremely horrible as it instead sounds like glorifying the horrible side of how they got their title instead of actually giving them the recognition the author/developer was initially thinking.

In detail, the advancement is supposed to be acquired by the player when the AA Turret (designed to look like the German Flak 88) is placed and the player is able to shoot down 100 Phantoms (representing the 100th's ability to shoot down 100 aircraft). However, the advancement is instead scrapped in favor of a suggestion made by someone in Reddit, focusing on the Battle of Great Britain, referencing "London Can Take It" by shooting down 100 Phantoms with a different variant of an AA Turret (modelled after an allied AA Turret).

Moral Support

There are several instances wherein the author/developer was stuck on certain problems and/or issues and needed someone to talk to. This comes from the AIs (ofc, there's also the friends and family but they aren't available all the time); specifically Gemini and Claude. On some occasions, the author/developer would also work on the mod for extended periods of time and would need someone to talk to, which is where the AIs come in. The AIs are always available and can provide support and guidance when needed. Think of this section as the author/developer using them like a chatbot talking about nonsense and random stuff.

Fabric and Minecraft Documentation Lookup

While documentation is available online, there would be times when the author is "blind" and would miss certain stuff (Yes, I missed the rendering section in the Fabric Wiki and Gemini insisted it existed. I was wrong and Gemini was right). The AIs are used to look up the Fabric and Minecraft documentations to ensure that the author/developer is not missing anything. Links to the sources is always asked to confirm the information. Otherwise, the author/developer would have been stuck on a lot of stuff already.

Grammar and Spelling

With English being the author's second language, there would be times when the author/developer would ask the AIs to double check their grammar and spelling to ensure that the documentation is clear and understandable. The README file in the GitHub repo is one such example where the author/developer asked the AIs to check the grammar and spelling to ensure clarity and understandability... and for correct spelling of various words that still confuses the author despite using it several times already (i.e. "ocassions" instead of "occasions", and so on, and also typos).

This list will be updated as the mod development progresses and more tasks are added or removed from this AI usage list. The author/developer is committed to transparency and will provide updates on the AI usage in the mod development process.

# v1.1.3 Beta for Minecraft 26.3.x

Bumped the latest working beta version of the mod from 26.2 to work with the new Minecraft 26.3 version.
# v1.1.3 Beta for Minecraft 26.2.x

Just a minor fix for those playing in survival. All TAS recipes get unlocked immediately after acquiring its recipe ingredients when it was only supposed to be unlocked after acquiring one and interacting with TAS at least once.

Also, some turret recipes for the Crafting Table tend to not load or not show up until crafted due to a category error. This was fixed now in this patch.

This patched version of the v1.1.2-beta is for the latest 26.2.x version of Minecraft, allowing players from the latest version to finally play the mod as well.

On the recent v1.1.1-beta, bugs got through and I completely forgot to add the Missile Turret's death loot. This patch added the missing death loot alongside some fixes to some potentially hazardous (crash-level hazard) bugs preventing the mod from being played in a server.

## What's New?
🟢 Add forgotten and missing Missile Turret death loot table.<br>

# v1.1.1 Beta for Minecraft 1.21.11

<img alt="2026-06-08T14_59_35-1920w-downscale net" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/e4c9e121-4fba-4594-a4f0-237ba3f4f9aa" />

Some bugs got through the [v1.1.0-beta-1.21.11](https://modrinth.com/mod/defensive-measures/version/1.1.0-beta-1.21.11) release. This makes the turrets that shoots explosive projectile stronger than intended. This patch fixes said bug.

Some development commands are also released accidentally. While said commands posed no threat nor breaking effect in the game, it is still recommended to update to v1.1.1-beta-1.21.11 to fix the mentioned bug above.

## What's New?
🟡 Fix double damage on explosive projectile.<br>
🟡 Fix entity not getting knocked back when hit by the explosive projectile.<br>
🟡 Fix entity outside spherical radius of explosion being included in the custom explosion system.<br>
🔴 Remove pose commands.
# v1.1.0 Beta for Minecraft 1.21.11

![2026-06-02_04 16 33](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/cd74dbc1-9148-4b51-a336-1a8e03258766)

Implementation of Tier 2 turrets meant upgrades in some way or another. Tier 2 turrets are created by "assembling" them in a flat recipe in the new [Turret Assembly Station (TAS) block](https://github.com/Virus5600/Defensive-Measures-Mod/issues/35) which provides a 7x7 crafting grid and custom recipe book (called Blueprint). The TAS offers discounted crafting recipes for Tier 1 turrets (which are the Cannon, Ballista, and MG Turret) while providing access to Tier 2 turrets ([AA Turret](https://github.com/Virus5600/Defensive-Measures-Mod/issues/17), [Flame Turret](https://github.com/Virus5600/Defensive-Measures-Mod/issues/36), and [Missile Turret](https://github.com/Virus5600/Defensive-Measures-Mod/issues/33)). Alongside the new turrets is the new [Electric Fence block](https://github.com/Virus5600/Defensive-Measures-Mod/issues/19) that behaves like normal vanilla fence, but damages entities that get too close.

## What's New?

### Turrets

🟢 Add **AA Turret** (based on Flak 88). Projectile used is called **Flak Projectile**.
🟢 Add **Flame Turret**. "Projectile" used is called **Flammable Aerosol**.
🟢 Add **Missile Turret**. Projectile used is called **Micro Missile**.
🟢 Add new entity type tags, namely: #dm:flying_hostiles, #dm:is_projectile, #dm:projectiles, #dm:tier_1_turrets, #dm:tier_2_turrets, and #dm:turrets.
🟡 Cannon Turret got a new model to match (kinda) the other Tier 1 turrets.

### Blocks

🟢 Add **Turret Assembly Stations** (TAS) for creating Tier 2 turrets under the "Functional Blocks" tab.
🟢 Add Electric Fence as a new kind of static defense under the "Trap" category and tab.

### Mechanics/Systems

🟢 Add recipe advancements for all craftable items in this mod.
🟢 Add new Crafting UI and custom recipe book called "Blueprint" for the new TAS block.
🟢 Add new stat that tracks player interaction with the new TAS block.
# 1.0.2 Beta for Minecraft 1.21.11

Major refactorization was done to the rendering pipeline alongside its main module base class creation, allowing easier and faster implementation of future turrets. Various models are updated after removing Geckolib dependency, allowing the mod without relying on said dependency's status.

Some bugs are ironed out while also attempting to improve turret optimization and crash prevention.

## What's New?

### Turrets
🟡 Ballista and MG Turrets got a new model that are more compatible to the current rendering and modeling pipeline.<br>
🟡 Ballista Arrow is now Ballista Bolt!<br>
🟡 All turrets now have a base/fallback hurt sound.<br>

### MG Turret
🟢 MG Bullet now has dynamic impact particles, shooting up block particles when it hits a block.<br>
🟡 MG Bullet got a new simpler model.<br>
# 1.0.2 Beta for Minecraft 1.21.4

The release includes a bug fix from the old version that got overlooked in the migration to 1.21.4. All AA Turret related classes and codes are removed but all asset files are retained.

### Changelog
🟡 Fixed a bug where items won't get consume and tools used to repair the turrets won't get damaged
# Update 1.0.1-beta-1.21.4

In accordance with issue #22, Defensive Measures is now updated to Minecraft 1.21.4!

Defensive Measures is now updated to Minecraft 1.21.4, bumping version to v1.0.1-beta-1.21.4.

Several changes have been implemented to the turrets while also preparing for future implementations of some features such as Turret Levels and White/Blacklisting of entities and/or players.

## What's New?

🟢 Added a new particle, used by MG Turret when shooting.<br>
🔴 Removed Anvil repair modification to allow compatibility with other mods.<br>

### Items

🟢 Turret Items now shows the health of the turret, along with their range, vertical firing arc, and reload time.<br>
🔴 Turret Remover equipment has now fewer repair item ingredients.<br>

### Turrets

🟡 Updated all turret's projectile shooting calculation, making some turrets shoot more upwards than straight.<br>
🟡 Turrets will now lose its target focus when their target is further up or down their vertical firing arc.<br>
🟡 Particle emissions are now aligned properly to their respective models.<br>
🟡 Made turrets persistent, preventing them from despawning upon chunk unload.<br>
🟡 Turrets will now not get knocked back when near explosions.<br>
🟡 Attempted to make all turrets adjust their pitch a bit more to match their projectile's arc path.<br>

### Cannon Turret

🟢 Buffed the Cannon Turret, increasing its range from 16 blocks to 24 blocks.<br>
🟢 Buffed the damage of Cannon Turret via its Cannonball projectile, which now deals 10 damage, but will exponentially decrease upon a certain distance.<br>
🟡 Cannonball has now a larger hitbox to fit its scale.<br>
🔴 Cannon Turret now has a minimum range, which sits at 3 blocks.<br>

### Ballista Turret

🟢 Ballista Turrets now shoots a Ballista Arrow upon death on where it is last looking, allowing its animation to come to life.<br>

### MG Turret

🟢 MG Turret's shots can now pierce entities depending on their armor points.<br>
🟢 MG Turret has now a smaller hitbox and model.<br>
🟡 MG Turret's shots now destroy fragile blocks like Glass, Glass Pane, Sea Lantern, etc. Also, it now produces different hit sound, depending on what it hits.<br>
🟡 Fixed crash issue whenever MG Turret shoots when playing in multiplayer or server.<br>
🟡 Buffed MG Turret to now have armor points (2) with armor toughness of 1. Also, increased its range from 16 to 20.<br>

I found a bug while playing the mod with my brother... It's scary enough to eat all your irons and wood without you knowing so I quickly made a patch.

## Changelog

🟢 Added sound event when turrets are fixed (healed)<br>
🟡 Fixed a bug where items won't get consume and tools used to repair the turrets won't get damaged<br>

# Open Beta
This marks the end of the Alpha Phase of the mod and now under Beta and can be tested. All bugs and issues can be reported and will be looked upon. I'm so glad and proud to introduce my first mod in Minecraft Java after porting this entire concept from my **_[Bedrock Add-On](https://github.com/virus5600/Defensive-Measures-Add-on)_**

#

### **[TURRETS]**
This introduces new turrets to the game:

### **Cannon Turret**

> One of the cheapest turrets to build in the mod. It shoots arrows that deals low damages to enemy but penetrates them.

### **MG Turret**
