Extended Block Shapes Mod

本文档有中文版。

Since 3.0.0, Better Runtime Resource Pack mod is no longer required.

This mod adds stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, button and pressure plates for many vanilla blocks, along with vertical slabs, vertical stairs, quarter pieces and vertical quarter pieces that do not exist in vanilla Minecraft. A list of the contents can be found in Block List.

At present, this mod supports Minecraft Java Edition. Please install the relevant mod according to your MC version, and it requires Fabric API to run. Besides, for Fabric, Mod Menu is usually needed (but not required) to open mod config screen.

If you have installed Extended Block Shapes and Blockus, you may also optionally install Extended Block Shapes - Blockus, to add inter-mod support for Blockus.

See update log for previous update logs. Welcome to join Tencent QQ group 587928350 to experience the latest update of this mod.

Features

Blocks

This mod provides numbers of variants of many blocks. For example, wool has wool stairs, wool slab, wool wall, wool pressure plate, etc. Vertical stairs, vertical slab, quarter piece and vertical quarter piece are added by the mod; these blocks, like regular stairs and slabs, are waterloggable.

The hardness, mining tools and mining time of all stairs, slabs, fences and walls are equal to their base blocks, which is the same behaviour of vanilla, instead of related to their volume. For example, a plank slab and a plank block will take the same time to mine.

In vanilla, the hardness of pressure plates and buttons equals to 1/4 or 1/3 of their basic blocks. All pressure plates and buttons added in this mod have the same hardness as 1/4 of their base blocks. This mod simply extends buttons: soft buttons (wool buttons, snow buttons) trigger 60 ticks (3 seconds); hard buttons (obsidian buttons, bedrock buttons) trigger 5 ticks (1/4 second). For the actual activation time, see the table below. Like in vanilla Minecraft, all buttons and pressure plates have no collision box.

base block button activation time plate activation time
stone blocks 20 20
wooden and bamboo 30 20
other soft blocks 50 40
hard blocks (obsidian, netherite, etc.) 5 5
wool 50 40
snow 55 55
moss 60 60
dirt, clay 45 45
ore blocks 15 10
melon, pumpkin 35 25
quartz 25 25
basalt 15 15
tuff, calcite, netherrack 25 20
deepslate (including bricks) 10 10
unoxidized copper 10 10
exposed copper 40 40
weathered copper 70 70
oxidized copper 100 100
glowstone 30 30
nether wart, warped wart 45 45
amethyst 35 25

This mod also adds "double smooth stone slab" and "petrified oak planks" blocks, respectively crafted from smooth stone slabs and petrified oak slabs. Vanilla smooth stone blocks can still be crafted into smooth stone slabs. Both of the two blocks can be placed into sulfur cubes, and their sulfur cube archetypes are both #slow_bouncy (same to stone).

Blocks added by this mod inherit most features of their base blocks:

  • Wool and planks blocks (which means blocks based on wool or planks different shapes) are flammable (burning time and spreading speed equal vanilla full blocks).
  • Wool, planks, wood and log blocks can be used as fuel. Slabs and vertical slabs, when used as fuel, can consume half the time of their base blocks. Buttons used as fuels smelt about 1/3 the time of their base blocks. Quarter pieces and vertical quarter pieces, when used as fuel, smelt 1/4 the time of the base blocks.
  • Wool blocks, no matter whether they occupy the space of a whole block, can block sculk sensors.
    • Note that in vanilla, wool carpets dampen vibrations but cannot occlude signals. However, all woolen blocks in this mod occlude all vibration signals.
  • Netherrack blocks are infiniburn.
  • Bedrock blocks are infiniburn in the end. They are not harvestable in Survival Mode. However, bedrock buttons and pressure plates may drop when they lose the blocks they relie on.
  • Endstone, obsidian and crying obsidian blocks are immune to ender dragons.
  • Netherite blocks and ancient debris blocks, when dropped as items, resist fire and lava.
  • Blocks of Gold blocks, raw gold and gilded blackstone can be admired by piglins.
  • Breaking gold blocks, raw gold blocks and gilded blackstone blocks irritates piglins.
  • A snow stairs or snow slab, when placed on a grass block, if it just covers the whole top of the grass block, makes it snowy, just like covered by a snow block or snow.
  • Small dripleaves and large dripleaves can be placed on blocks based on moss blocks and clay (only building blocks).
  • Blocks based on pumpkin, melon, moss block, shroomlight, nether wart block and warped wart block can be composted.
  • Blocks based on packed ice and sculk block drop only mined with items with Silk Touch enchantment.
  • Blocks based on clay block, snow block, melon block, etc., drop their corresponding items when mined, such as clay ball, snow ball (only when shoveled) and melon slice. The number of items dropped by slabs, quarter pieces, vertical slabs, vertical slabs is based on that of base blocks divided by 2 or 4, and double slabs drop the double. Some items dropped may be affected by Fortune enchantment, and blocks themselves are dropped when mined with tools with Silk Touch.
  • About the interaction between blocks and pistons: for blocks that cannot be pushed by piston, such as obsidian, bedrock, the buttons and pressure plates can also not be pushed by piston, while buttons and pressure plates for other blocks will be directly destroyed.
  • About note block: To be consistent with vanilla, the note block instrument of button blocks is always harp, while others are the same as their base blocks.
  • Buttons will not be displayed as colors in maps.
  • Copper blocks, like vanilla copper blocks, can be oxidized, and be deoxidized by using axes or being hit by lighting bolt. They can also be waxed and de-waxed. Oxidation of waxed copper does not change.

Crafting and smelting

The crafting recipes for all blocks in this mod are similar to those in vanilla. Stone and metal blocks can also be made with a stonecutter. Stairs can be crafted 3:2 in a crafting table (ingredient:result) and 1:1 in the stone cutter. Slabs and vertical slabs are craftable 1:2 in either crafting table or stone cutter.

Slabs, stairs and quarter pieces can be rotated in crafting recipes to be corresponding vertical blocks; you can also "rotate them back". For instance, one slab can be crafted into one corresponding vertical slab, and one vertical slab can also be crafted into a corresponding slab directly.

Crafting recipes of blocks in different shapes are as follows:

  • 6×base blocks → 4×stairs
  • 3×base blocks → 6×slabs
  • 3×slabs → 6×quarter pieces (slabs arranged horizontally)
  • 1×slab ↔ 1×vertical slab
  • 1×stairs ↔ 1×vertical stairs
  • 1×quarter piece ↔ 1×vertical quarter piece
  • 3×vertical slabs → 6×vertical quarter pieces (vertical slabs arranged vertically)

Stone-cutting recipes of some blocks are as follows:

  • 1×base block → 1×stairs / 1×vertical stairs / 2×slabs / 2×vertical slabs / 4×quarter pieces / 4×vertical quarter pieces
  • 1×stairs → 3×quarter pieces
  • 1×slab → 2×quarter pieces
  • 1×vertical stairs → 3×vertical quarter pieces
  • 1×vertical slab → 2×quarter pieces / 2×vertical quarter pieces

In stonecutters, one base blocks can be cut into various shapes for cut base blocks. For instance, a stone can be cut into stone bricks, and stone bricks can be cut into 2 vertical stone brick slabs, while one stone can also be cut directly into 2 vertical stone brick slabs. However, blocks of various shapes cannot be cut into their corresponding shapes of cut base blocks.

The second crafting ingredient for crafting fences and fences (apart from base blocks) is dependent on its base block. See details in block list.

All unwaxed copper blocks can be crafted with honeycomb into corresponding waxed blocks.

Built-in data pack fixing recipe conflicts

Some recipes may conflict with vanilla. To avoid the conflicts, there is a built-in data pack in this mod to avoid recipe conflicts, which is enabled by default. When the data pack is enabled, the following crafting will change:

  • Wool pressure plates are not crafted from 2 blocks of wool, but 3 carpets crafts into 1 wool pressure plate, and 1 wool pressure plate also crafts into 3 carpets.
  • Moss pressure plates are not crafted from 2 moss blocks, but 1 moss carpet crafts into 1 moss pressure plate, and 1 moss pressure plate also crafts into 2 moss carpets.
  • Snow slabs are not crafted from 2 snow blocks but 1 snow (layer).
  • Stairs and slabs of vanilla sandstone, red sandstone and quartz must be crafted from base blocks, instead of variants of the base blocks.
  • Buttons of block of iron, block of gold, block of diamond, block of coal, block of lapis, pumpkin, block of netherite, raw gold block, raw copper block and raw iron block, are crafted from 1 base block and 1 iron ingot, gold ingot, diamond, coal, lapis lazuli, pumpkin seeds, netherite ingot, raw gold, raw copper or raw iron.
  • Buttons of bamboo block, stripped bamboo block, copper block (including all oxidization levels, not including cut copper), waxed copper (including all oxidization levels, not including waxed cut copper), various logs, wood, stem, hyphae and those stripped variants, are crafted from 1 base block and 1 redstone dust.
  • Walls of planks are crafted from 6 planks and 1 stick.
  • Copper walls and waxed copper walls (including all oxidization levels) are crafted from 6 base blocks and 1 copper ingot.

This datapack is enabled by default. If it's not enabled in your word, you can run command /datapack enable "extshape:recipe_tweak".

If you installed the part that cooperates with other mods (see inter-mod support), the recipe conflicts are unavoidable. In this case it's recommended to install mods that fix the recipe conflict.

The command to manually test recipe conflicts

The command /extshape:check-conflict can be used to test conflicts in crafting recipes, which may cause the server to lag several seconds or minutes. The command can be used only by the server owner, not ordinary players or command blocks.

The syntax the command supports:

  • /extshape:conflict: Test all conflicts between crafting recipes.
  • /extshape:conflict <namespace>: Test conflicts between crafting recipes of the specified namespace and the vanilla namespace.
  • /extshape:conflict <namespace> ...(multiple namespaces are separated by space): Test conflicts of crafting recipes of the specified multiple namespaces.

Creative Inventory

In versions above 1.19.3, items in these mods will by default be added to vanilla item groups.

In versions 1.19.2 and before, if you enabled "Add to vanilla groups", mods will be directly appended after all existing blocks, which may make item groups appear messy. You may install Reasonable Sorting mod to sort the content. (Reasonable Sorting mod does not support versions above 1.19.3, and it is also unnecessary.)

You may also configure the shapes to be added into groups. You can enter the mod config screen through the mod menu of Mod Menu mod. If you did not install Mod Menu mod, you can also access the config screen of the mod through typing /extshape:config in game.

For example, if you enable "add to vanilla groups", and set "shapes added to vanilla groups" to stairs slab, then only stairs and slabs in this mod are added into vanilla groups (not affecting vanilla existing items). For 1.19.3, the shapes are added in order (but cannot be duplicate). For example, if you write slab stairs, stairs will be added after the slabs (vanilla stairs and slabs will not be affected).

Inter-mod support

The mod can currently add utilities with Blockus mod.

Blockus

If you have installed Extended Block Shapes and Blockus mod, you may optionally install "Extended Block Shapes - Blockus" mod based on those two mods, so that extended shapes for Blockus blocks will also be added.

Note: There are no specific groups for these blocks. Therefore, to find these blocks in creative inventory, you need to enable "Add to vanilla groups" in the mod options of "Extended Block Shapes", and find these blocks in Blockus item groups.

  • Optimized the implementation of item group rules. Item group rules are no longer rebuilt when rebuilding Creative inventories, and can be used earlier. Now the items in the mod should be able to be displayed in the item list of JustEnoughItems mod.
  • Followed the updates in 3.1.5 for versions below 1.21.10, including:
  • Fixed the tag issue of shape variants of copper block, pumpkin and melon.
  • Considering vanilla pressure_plates and stone_pressure_plates only have block tags, no item tags, this mod uses corresponding tags namespaced extshape.
  • Added blocks related to herringbone charred nether bricks.
  • Readded the feature of "specific item groups" removed at the time of Minecraft 1.19.3. Now there are 5 specific groups: wooden and bamboo blocks, colored blocks, stone blocks, mineral blocks, other blocks. Enabling or disabling specific item groups now requires restarting the game.
  • In the specific item group for colored blocks, colors are sorted like in vanilla item groups.
  • Added two config entries: wooden and bamboo block specific item group sorting and colored blocks item group sorting.
  • The sorting for item groups of wooden and bamboo blocks can be: "same species different forms together" (default), "same form different species together". "Species" refers to different types of trees, such as oak and birch, and "form" refers to how the wood is processed, such as wood (hyphae), log (stem), planks. Bamboo block is treated as log form; bamboo planks are treated as planks form; there are no corresponding wood form for bamboo. For example, when setting to "same species different forms together", variant forms like oak wood, stripped oak wood and oak planks are placed together, while when setting to "same form different species together", wood blocks like oak wood and birch wood are placed together, and plank blocks like oak planks and birch planks are placed together.
  • The sorting for item groups of colored blocks can be: "same color different shapes together" and "same shape different colors together". For example, when setting to "same color different shapes together", white wool along with its stairs and slab is placed together, light gray wool along with its stairs and slab is placed together, while when setting to "same shape different colors together", base blocks of white wool, light gray wool and wool block of other various colors are placed together, the wool stairs of various colors are placed together, and the wool slabs of various colors are placed together.
  • In the mod's configuration screen, when "show specific item groups" is off, the buttons for the two config entries above will be disabled.
  • Fixed the issue that when modifying "shapes to add to vanilla item groups" and "shapes to add to specific item groups", the modification cannot work if nothing but the order is changed.
  • Now in the configuration screen, when the "add to vanilla item groups" and "show specific item groups" are off, besides relevant text fields, the "reset" button right to the text field will also be disabled.

[3.1.6+mc26.3] 3.1.6+mc26.3 by SolidBlock on Oct 18, 2026
Download
  • See the update log for 3.1.6-beta.1, 3.1.6-beta.2, 3.1.6-beta.3.
  • For 26.3, see the update log for 3.1.6-beta.4, 3.1.6-beta.5, 3.1.6-beta.6, 3.1.6-beta.7, 3.1.6-beta.8, 3.1.9-beta.9, 3.1.9-beta.10, 3.1.6-beta.11, 3.1.6-beta.12, 3.1.6-rc.1.
  • For 26.3, now the stripping of wood blocks is registered through Fabric API.
  • (For 26.3 only) Now the mod can be normally configured in the mod list of Mod Menu mod.
  • Known issue: Typing an invalid shape name in the text field in the configuration screen causes logging an error in the console. This issue also exists in other version.
  • Update for 26.3-pre-1. Following the vanilla changes, the number providers in this mod are split into context_int_provider and context_float_provider.
  • Update for 26.3-snapshot-10. Now the stripping of wood and bamboo blocks in this mod uses the entry with ID extshape:axe of the vanilla registry block_transformer.
  • Removed extshape:product number provider type, and the minecraft:product number provider type of vanilla 26.3-snapshot-9 is used instead.
  • Following the changes of 26.3-snapshot-8, now concretes can be cut into blocks of this mod with the stonecutter.
  • Compatible with 26.3-snapshot-7. The concrete stairs and slab blocks of the mod in the previous versions will be converted to relevant vanilla blocks.
  • Now in 26.3 versions, block and item tags #extshape:concrete_stairs and #extshape:concrete_slabs no longer exist, as vanilla #concrete_stairs and #concrete_slabs already exist.
  • Since vanilla concrete stairs and slabs do not support stonecutting, since this version, blocks related to concretes no longer support stonecutting in 26.3 versions.
  • Compatible with 26.3-snapshot-6.
  • Added a new number provider type: extshape:product, used to calculate the product of values of multiple number providers.
  • It has one field: values, the value is the list or tag of number providers.
  • Added the number provider of variant modifier value, all of which are constant values, whose ID and values are:
  • extshape:shape_variant_modifier/half: 0.5
  • extshape:shape_variant_modifier/one_third: 1/3
  • extshape:shape_variant_modifier/quarter: 0.25
  • Added the number provider for the composting and cooking for the shape variants of some blocks. The ID is extshape:shape_variant/<scene type>/<base name>/<variant type>, where the value of <scene type> is compostable or cooking, the <variant type is half, one_third or quarter. Example: extshape:shape_variant/compostable/medium/half, extshape:shape_variant/cooking/time_wool/quarter.
  • half variant type is used for slabs and vertical slabs, one_third variant type is used for buttons and pressure plates, quarter variant type is used for vertical quarter pieces and quarter pieces. For example, the cooking number provider of yellow wool button is ehanced_commands:shape_variant/cooking/time_wool/one_third, the composting number provider of pale moss is extshape:shape_variant/compostable/mediun/quarter.
  • Stairs, vertical stairs, fences, fence gates and walls use the cooking or composting number provider of their base blocks. For example, the cooking number provider of yellow wool wall is minecraft:cooking/time_wool, and the composting number provider of pale moss fences is minecraft:compostable/medium.
  • For composting number providers, the probability the value is 1 is the probability its base value (the value of the composting number provider of the base block) is 1 multiplied by the value of its corresponding variant modifier, but similar to vanilla behavior, composting always successes when the composter block is empty.
  • For cooking number providers, the cooking time is the base value (the value of the cooking number provider of the base block) multiplied by the value of its corresponding variant modifier.
  • These number providers are affected by the number providers of the corresponding base blocks, and meanwhile affected by the number provider of variant modifier value (extshape:shape_variant_modifier/<variant modifier type>).
  • Fixed the issue of wrong block sort of colored blocks in the creative mode inventory in 26.3.
  • The changes above only apply to 26.3 snapshots and higher versions.- Added the number provider for the composting and cooking for the shape variants of some blocks. The ID is enhanced_commands:shape_variant/<scene type>/<base name>/<variant type>, where the value of <scene type> is compostable or cooking, the <variant type is half, one_third or quarter. Example: enhanced_commands:shape_variant/compostable/medium/half, enhanced_commands:shape_variant/cooking/time_wool/quarter.
  • half variant type is used for slabs and vertical slabs, one_third variant type is used for buttons and pressure plates, quarter variant type is used for vertical quarter pieces and quarter pieces. For example, the cooking number provider of yellow wool button is ehanced_commands:shape_variant/cooking/time_wool/one_third, the composting number provider of pale moss is enhanced_commands:shape_variant/compostable/mediun/quarter.
  • These number providers are affected by the number providers of the corresponding base blocks, and meanwhile affected by the number provider of variant modifier value (enhanced_commands:shape_variant_modifier/<variant modifier type>).
  • Fixed the issue of wrong block sort of colored blocks in the creative mode inventory in 26.3.
  • The changes above only apply to 26.3 snapshots and higher versions.
  • See the update log for 3.1.6-beta.1、3.1.6-beta.2、3.1.6-beta.3.
  • See the update log for 3.1.6-beta.1、3.1.6-beta.2、3.1.6-beta.3.
  • Update to 26.3 snapshot 3.
  • Following vanilla changes, current block loot tables will also reference the loot table predicate in the dynamic registry, instead of inlined in loot tables.
  • Following vanilla changes, composting chances will use the number providers in the dynamic registry.
  • In the current version, the composting chance of some items has been changes comparing to the previous version, as only vanilla number providers are used currently. Further adjustments will be made in future versions.
  • Update to 26.3 snapshot 2.
  • This mod does not modify the default block_transformer item component of axes, but has some special handling in implementation, so that wood blocks in this mod can be correctly stripped.
  • Optimized the way the fuels are registered.
  • Now registration will no longer happen for every single block. It can improve loading speed in theory.
  • Now the fuel time is automatically decided according to registered fuel time.
  • Added the verification of fuel time. In the development environment, if a base block can be used as fuel but its shape variants cannot, or a bae block cannot be used as fuel but the shape variants can, exceptions will be thrown.
  • As vanilla treats all items with #fence_gates item tags as fuel, some fence gate blocks made of non-burnable blocks were also used as fuels. This issue has now been fixed.
  • Now in vanilla, when handling special sorted blocks (such as copper-related blocks), the "shapes to add to vanilla" in the mod's config will also be used.
  • Adjusted the sorting of copper blocks in the creative mode inventory for versions 26.2 and above to match vanilla.
  • Fit 26.3-snapshot-1.
  • Now in the development environment, block tags are verified more. Block Tags related to block harvesting (#mineable/*, #needs_*_tool, #incorrect_for_*_tool, and #shears_*_breaking_speed introduced in 26.2), those existing in base blocks must exist in variants block, and those not existing in base blocks must not exist in variants block, otherwise errors are thrown. Meanwhile, the following changes are applied to block tags:
  • Fixed the issue that blocks of waxed copper block of any oxidization level do not have #needs_stone_tool tag.
  • Fixed the issue that pumpkins and melons blocks do not have #sword_efficient tag.
  • Now in the development environment, stonecutting recipes are verified. If a base block can be cut into some shape variants of some base block (which can be the same or another), while cannot be cut into other shapes (only limited to construction shapes and walls), errors will be thrown. For instance, if A can be cut into stairs and slab of B (A and B can be a same base block), but cannot be cut into a vertical slab of B, an error will be thrown. Besides, as stonecutting is limited to construction shapes and walls, if some block can be cut into other shapes (such as button, pressure plate), an error will be thrown as well. Meanwhile, the following changes are applied to stonecutting recipes.
  • Synchronizing the changes of Minecraft 26.1, now stone can be cut into blocks related to cobblestone, and deepslate can be cut into blocks related to cobbled deepslate, polished deepslate, deepslate bricks and deepslate tiles.
  • Now the [tag removal feature of Fabric API](https://fabricmc.net/2026/06/15/262.html#tag-removal) introduced in 0.150.1 will be used, removing non-pickaxe-mineable walls (such as wooden walls and woolen walls) and non-axe-mineable fence gates (such as stone fence gates) directly from #mineable/pickaxe and #mineable/axe block tags; these blocks no longer have those tags.
  • In versions 26.2 and above, the sulfur cube archetype of petrified oak planks and smooth stone double slab are slow_bouncy.
  • Now in the development environment, item tags will be varified. As vanilla #pressure_plates and #stone_pressure_plates only provide block tags, not item tags, the mod now uses block and item tags #extshape:pressure_plates and #extshape:stone_pressure_plates, and the block tags #extshape:pressure_plates and #extshape:stone_pressure_plates will be treated as the aliases of vanilla block tags #pressure_plates and #extshape:stone_pressure_plates. Meanwhile, the following changes are made on item tags:
  • Fixed the issue that #pressure_plates item tag does not contain #wooden_pressure_plates and #stone_pressure_plates (now item tags do not use #pressure_plates and #stone_pressure_plates which does not exist in vanilla).
  • Added more stone blocks' pressure plates and buttons to #extshape:stone_pressure_plates and #minecraft:stone_buttons block and item tags.
• Added stonecutting recipes for blocks of sulfur and cinnabar.
  • Fit 26.1 snapshots. Added all variants for sulfur, polished sulfur, sulfur bricks, cinnabar, polished cinnabar, cinnabar bricks. Variants for chiseled sulfur and chiseled cinnabar are not added.
  • Petrified oak planks and double smooth stone stairs can be absorbed by Sulfur Cube and belong to regular type (same as stone blocks).
  • Support Minecraft 26.1 release version.
  • Use @NullMarked.
  • Fixed the issue that items of netherite blocks are not fire-resistant in 26.1.

> Since this version, the version number of the mod file use an add symbol instead of hyphen to identify Minecraft versions, for example 3.1.3+mc26.1 instead of 3.1.3-mc26.1.

The update only applies to older versions, fixing the issue that the pressure plates and buttons of some blocks like wool may cause the server to crash (issue #80).

This version is published in Jan 2026, which is only a fix update to mods for older MC versions, and still depends on BRRP. It does not mean that the mod for these MC versions will follow up updates for the subsequent updates.
