Description
Localized Chat limits the range a player can talk and be heard VIA TEXT CHAT. Most chats on a server are between players that are local to each others.
This pairs really well with Simple Voice Chat by henkelmax.
Only range and error code colors are configurable currently.
Shout is now supported in versions 1.20.1 and newer for Fabric, Forge, and Neoforge.
Prior to this it does not support shout.
* Fabric Versions require Fabric API and ClothConfig
Compatibility
This mod not compatible with other chat mods such as Discord Chat integration or the FTB Utilities chat.
Not compatible with 1.19.x+'s chat reporting feature. That feature breaks this mod. Until we find a solution that works, 1.18.2 is the highest this mod can go.

Sides
Not required on client side, but if there you can use it in LAN parties.
Changes
Starting with 5.4.0 on 1.21.4/1+
- Every chat channel can be turned on or off, given its own range, and charged HP, hunger, XP, any mix of those, or nothing.
- Talk (normal chat), shout (
/shout,/s,/sh), whisper (/me), and tell (/tell,/msg,/w) all use that same system. /meis no longer just range-limited. It has its own enable switch, distance, and cost.- Vanilla private messages are now gated the same way. Out-of-range targets are skipped. The cost is paid once if at least one target gets the message.
- Shout is no longer hunger-only. Same cost knobs as the other channels. Default is still 1 hunger.
- Added
/sand/shas shout aliases. opAsPlayer = truemeans ops pay and obey range.falsemeans they skip the cost and everyone on that channel hears them.- Extra commands can be listed in config with only a toggle and a cost (no range). Meant for homes, RTP, warps, and anything else that is not necessarily chat.
- Distance is still Manhattan.
-1is unlimited.0means nobody else hears it. - Config keys were rebuilt. Old names like
talkRange, shoutDisabled, andshoutFoodCostare gone. Copy the new file or let the mod generate a fresh one.
Modpacks/Rehosting
No need to ask, just add. A link back to this page would be nice but is not required. MCBBS is the only authorized place for rehosting as they actually link back here and they download links go to Curse.
