ScamScreener MarketGuard

ScamScreener MarketGuard is a client-side Fabric mod that protects you from expensive misclicks in the SkyBlock Auction House. It compares prices in relevant BIN auction screens against the current Lowest BIN and blocks risky clicks before you lose coins or accidentally list an item far too cheaply.

What The Mod Does

MarketGuard currently steps in during two common risk situations:

  • When creating a Create BIN Auction, the mod checks whether your listed price is significantly below the Lowest BIN.
  • When opening a Bin Auction View, the mod checks whether the purchase price is significantly above the Lowest BIN.

If a price falls outside your configured tolerance, the click is blocked and you receive a clear chat warning with the item name and percentage difference. That gives you an extra safety stop before an expensive mistake goes through.

How It Helps You As A Player

  • Protects you from typo prices, missing zeroes, and careless input when listing a BIN auction.
  • Prevents impulsive misbuys when a BIN offer is far above the usual market price.
  • Saves coins by stepping in at the exact moment a misclick would become expensive.
  • Stays client-side: no server installation, no interaction with other players, no unnecessary overhead.

The mod is intentionally not a general-purpose scam scanner for everything. It is a direct price safety layer for the most critical BIN clicks in the Auction House.

How The Protection Works

  1. You open a relevant auction screen.
  2. MarketGuard preloads Lowest BIN data in the background.
  3. On a risky click, the mod compares the shown price against the market value.
  4. If the difference is too large, the click is stopped and a warning is shown.
  5. If you still want to continue on purpose, the block can be bypassed after several additional clicks.

This means accidental mistakes get caught, but intentional decisions are still possible.

Default Protection Values

By default, MarketGuard uses these thresholds:

  • Underbidding: 80% This blocks auctions listed more than 20% below Lowest BIN.
  • Overbidding: 120% This blocks purchases that are more than 20% above Lowest BIN.

Commands

You can adjust the protection thresholds directly in-game:

  • /marketguard
  • /mg
  • /marketguard underbidding <0-100>
  • /marketguard overbidding <value 100 or higher>

Examples:

  • /marketguard underbidding 85 allows at most 15% below Lowest BIN.
  • /marketguard overbidding 130 allows at most 30% above Lowest BIN.

Disabling protection:

  • underbidding 0 or underbidding 100 disables underbidding protection.
  • overbidding 100 disables overbidding protection.

The values are stored in config/scamscreener_marketguard/config.json.

Important Notes

  • The mod uses Lowest BIN data from the external ScamScreener API.
  • If price data is still loading or temporarily unavailable, MarketGuard blocks the risky click instead of letting it pass blindly. Unless loading has failed.
  • If only stale cached data is available, the mod tells you.
  • On join, the mod can also notify you when a new version is available.

# MarketGuard 1.5.0

Everything below is new since 1.4.0.

## New: movable HUDs

Press F8 to place them; each HUD can be limited to specific screens in MarketGuard Settings > HUD. Settings and HUD editors are available in English and German.

  • Auction Price HUD** (BIN view): four compact lines — the item in its rarity colour, Auction: 3M coins (gold), Lowest BIN: 1.6M coins (white; the cheapest listing on the auction house right now, for the same stack size) and one verdict that follows your protection thresholds — Fair price, 12% above Lowest BIN, or 63% above Lowest BIN - overpriced — with the coin difference in grey behind it, e.g. 63% above Lowest BIN - overpriced (+1.4M coins). An auction at or below the Lowest BIN is Cheapest BIN right now in green. When the 7-/30-day averages disagree with the Lowest BIN by more than a third, they are added in yellow ((avg 1.8M coins)); (few sales) means there is no average to compare with. Price-trend and resale warnings only appear when they matter.
  • Player HUD** (/mg playerhud <name> [profileId], /mg playerhud clear): the trade preset shows the name, how often you have met the player in lobbies, and whether they are on your ScamScreener blacklist; compact adds Bank + purse: X and Est. net worth: ~X when known; profile/all add skills, priced gear, Museum rows, a Data warnings row and a Data status row (Updated HH:mm / Data may be outdated). Missing values are hidden unless Show unavailable Player HUD rows is on. Presets via /mg playerhud preset trade|compact|profile|all, named layouts with load, edit, save/update, delete, share and clipboard import.
  • Trade Guard HUD**: compares the item value on both sides of a trade and pauses its warning when prices are incomplete or unreliable.
  • Minion Profit HUD**: Held coins: X and Storage sells for: X; **Forge Profit HUD**: Forge items sell for: X. A trailing + on either total means some stacks have no Bazaar price; a separate line counts them.
  • Profit Tracker HUD** (/mg profit or the Profit Tracker Display keybind, unbound by default): Bazaar, Auction House and Minion profit plus personal and co-op bank interest and Allowance income, with a confirmed reset action.
  • Per-HUD editors with drag-and-drop row ordering, a settings screen in Mod Menu, /mg hudlayout save|load <name> for HUD positions, and /mg numberformat (Use short coin values) to switch between 1,000,000 and 1M.

## Added

  • Minecraft 26.3 support.
  • A Market price basis setting under Protection (Lowest BIN / Median / In your favour) that decides which price the Auction Price HUD and the auction warnings compare against.
  • An Update notifications setting under General that controls the update message shown when joining a server.
  • Other mods can reuse MarketGuard's market and player data instead of sending their own requests.

## Changed

  • Auction verdicts and the over-/underbidding warnings always use the same price: by default the current Lowest BIN, scaled to the stack size of the auction. The Market price basis setting under Protection switches both to Median (median of Lowest BIN and the 7-/30-day averages) or In your favour (that median, but the signal in your favour when they disagree strongly).

## Fixed

  • Overbidding protection recognises BIN prices again and stops purchases above your configured limit.
  • Overbidding and underbidding protection no longer switch off when the recent price signals disagree: a purchase is only blocked when it is above every signal, a listing only when it is below every one, so a price that the current Lowest BIN supports always passes. The Market price basis setting picks the price both use: Lowest BIN (default), Median of Lowest BIN and the 7-/30-day averages, or In your favour; the Auction Price HUD shows exactly the price and percentage the warning uses and names it.
  • Stacked auctions (47x Shiny Orb) are compared against the price of the whole stack instead of a single item, in the HUD and in the protection checks; the HUD adds the per-item price behind both values (Auction: 400k coins (8.5k each)) and names the listing behind the Lowest BIN when it is a stack (Lowest BIN: 64x for 300k coins (4.7k each)), so it is clear why a 32x listing at 1M is overpriced even though single orbs sell for 42k.
  • Level-100 pets and Common/Uncommon pets are compared against the correct reference price; a [Lvl 100] pet no longer triggers a false overbidding block.
  • The Profit Tracker no longer multiplies Bazaar instant buy/sell totals by the stack size, counts partially claimed buy orders correctly, and forgets cancelled unfilled orders.
  • A crash while saving no longer resets your all-time Profit Tracker totals.
  • The Trade Guard no longer shows blacklist notices about unrelated auction sellers.
  • The Player HUD says Data may be outdated and Finance data unavailable instead of claiming finance-based values it does not have, and no longer fails to load for some players.
  • The Player HUD now also opens for sellers with a rank tag in the BIN view, for profile titles like Chris' Profile, and for trade partners whose name is cut off in the trade window title.
  • Update notifications only appear when the listed release is newer than the installed version.
  • HUDs stay visible on Turkish/Azeri system locales, reordering Player HUD rows for one preset no longer drops the rows of the other presets, and a HUD disabled on every screen stays disabled after a restart.
  • /mg reload applies a changed Player HUD preset immediately, and command feedback names the real config file (config/scamscreener_marketguard/config.json).

## Performance

  • The Trade Guard, Minion, Forge and Auction Price HUDs cost far less frame rate while their menus are open.
  • Lobby encounters are recorded in the background instead of stalling the game every 10 seconds.
  • The Profit Tracker does no work while its HUD is disabled and forgets auction positions and listings older than 14 days.

  • Added optional ScamScreener integration as a soft dependency via Modrinth Maven and Fabric suggests, so MarketGuard can check Lowest BIN auctioneers against your ScamScreener blacklist when the mod is installed.
  • Auction screens now warn with [MarketGuard] <player> is listed in your blacklist! Be cautious! when the current Lowest BIN auctioneer is blacklisted, including Confirm Purchase, without blocking the normal Lowest BIN comparison flow.
  • Added detailed debug logs for the ScamScreener blacklist check path, including lookup trigger, UUID parsing, match/no-match results, and duplicate-notice suppression. (Only when debug=true in config)
## 1.1.2

  • Lowest BIN checks now only use cached data that was loaded when opening Auction House screens, so slow or unavailable API requests no longer block BIN buys or listings.
  • Failed Lowest BIN refreshes now show a single warning message instead of stopping AH actions, while stale cached prices continue to be used when available.

## 1.1.1

  • Added Rune Lowest BIN resolution from SkyBlock item data, so rune items now map to API keys such as SNOW_RUNE;1 instead of the generic RUNE.
  • Missing Lowest BIN entries now use the normal bypass countdown instead of blocking BIN actions indefinitely.
  • Update notifications now compare only the mod version before +, so differing Minecraft suffixes like 1.1.0+1.21.11 no longer trigger false join messages.
