Mob Loot Bags

Every kill could be a jackpot. Mobs drop loot bags in six tiers, from Common to Mythic. Hold to open them and watch the loot roll in, check the odds before you open, automate the grind with the Bag Opener, recycle mob-farm junk into new bags, and gamble on Cursed, Hourglass and Locked bags. Every rate, table and machine value is yours to tune.

Fabric and NeoForge (Forge on 1.20.1) · Minecraft 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 · install on server and client

What's new in 2.0

Version 2.0 rebuilds the whole mod. Here's what changed from 1.x:

  • A new Mythic tier, plus Bag Luck, bad-luck protection, boss drops and mobs that carry bags
  • Hold to open with sound and particles, a reveal toast, and Shift loot previews
  • Loot beams on dropped bags, so you can spot a Legendary across a battlefield
  • The Hourglass bag (replaces Timed) and the Fortune Talisman
  • A rebuilt Bag Opener and Loot Recycler with new screens and real automation
  • New textures, screens and sounds everywhere, 13 advancements and four commented config files
  • Your 1.x world carries over: same item IDs, and your custom settings are migrated

Six tiers

Six tiers from Common to Mythic

Each tier rolls its own loot table, from bread and torches in a Common bag up to nether stars, beacons and maxed netherite gear in a Mythic one. Combine four bags into one of the next tier (Mythic also needs a nether star), or split one back into four.

Smarter drops

Hunt for the loot

  • Hostile mobs drop a bag 18% of the time. Tougher mobs drop more often, from ×0.5 up to ×2.5.
  • Bag Luck makes the higher tiers likelier. It comes from Looting, the Luck attribute, the mob's health, the Nether, the End and Hard difficulty.
  • Some zombies, skeletons, piglins and illagers spawn holding a bag. Kill them to take it.
  • Kills in the Nether and the End roll themed loot on top of the normal table.
  • Spawner mobs drop a quarter as often, so mob farms stay fair. Pet kills and arrows count for you.

Opening bags

Hold, rustle, reveal

Hold Use to tug a bag open, or sneak to open the whole stack at once. The loot goes straight into your inventory and a toast shows what you got. Legendary and Mythic bags flash a title on screen and play a fanfare.

Loot preview

Know what's inside

Hold Shift over a bag to see what it can give and how likely each item is. The chances are sampled from the server's real loot tables, so datapacks and modpack changes show up too.

Special bags

High risk, high reward

  • Cursed: a gamble. It might summon glowing cursed mobs that each drop a bag, pay out a Legendary jackpot, hex you, or set off something chaotic.
  • Hourglass: ripens in your inventory over 5 to 10 minutes, then opens into two Epic-or-better bags.
  • Locked: needs a Diamond Key, and holds netherite-grade loot.
  • Summoning: a bag full of spawn eggs.
  • Fortune Talisman: carry it and bags drop more often, and better ones.

Machines

Bag Opener

The Bag Opener opens bags by itself: 9 input slots, 18 output slots and four redstone modes (always on, on with a signal, on without one, or one bag per pulse). Hoppers and pipes feed it from the top and sides and empty it from the bottom. It waits for Hourglass bags to ripen and gives a comparator signal.

Loot Recycler

The Loot Recycler turns mob-farm junk into salvage points, and every 64 points becomes a fresh loot bag. Feed it bags you don't want and it stores their experience; take it with the button or a sneak-click.

Luck and bosses

Fortune favours the bold

  • Bad-luck protection: a bag after 12 kills without one, a Rare after 20 bags, a Legendary after 200.
  • Bosses always drop three Epic or better bags, with a 15% Mythic chance each. This covers the Wither, the Ender Dragon, the Warden, the Elder Guardian and any modded boss in #c:bosses.
  • Legendary and Mythic drops are announced to the server.
  • Check any mob's odds with /lootbags odds.

For modpacks

Tune everything

  • Four commented files in config/mob_loot_bags/ (drops.json, bags.json, machines.json and client.json). /lootbags reload applies changes without a restart.
  • Every bag's loot table can be replaced by a datapack, and any dimension can get its own themed tables.
  • Add items to #mob_loot_bags:bonus/<tier> to mix modded loot into a tier without writing JSON.
  • Use per-mob or per-tag drop multipliers, a whitelist or blacklist, and switches for passive mobs, pets and fake players.
  • /lootbags simulate opens a bag thousands of times and lists the odds, and /lootbags give hands out any bag.
  • Starter datapack for every version

Progression

Thirteen advancements

The mod has its own advancement tab, from Loot Goblin to Myth Made Real. It also tracks statistics for bags found and opened, and unlocks recipes when you find your first bag. /lootbags stats shows your history and how close your bad-luck protection is.

FAQ

Does it work with my 1.x world? Yes. Item and block IDs are unchanged, Timed bags become Hourglass bags, old machines keep their contents, and customised config/mlb/ settings are copied into the new files once.

Is it needed on the server and the client? Both. It adds items, blocks and screens.

Can I stop mob farms from flooding the server with bags? Yes. Spawner mobs already drop a quarter as often, and you can lower the chance per mob, filter mobs, or require a player kill (on by default).

Can I add modded items? Yes: add them to #mob_loot_bags:bonus/<tier>, replace a table with a datapack, or point a bag at your own tables in bags.json.

Can I turn off the beams, toasts or previews? Yes, each player can in client.json. Servers can change the hold time, toasts, titles and announcements in bags.json and drops.json.

# Mob Loot Bags 2.0.0 — Spoils of the Hunt

A full rework of Mob Loot Bags. The idea is unchanged (mobs drop bags, you open them for loot), but every system,
texture, sound, screen and config file is new. Worlds from 1.x keep working: item and block IDs are the same, old
Timed bags and machines are converted, and customised config/mlb/ settings are carried over on first start.

Available for Minecraft 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 on Fabric (needs Fabric API) and NeoForge (Forge on 1.20.1).

## Bags and drops
  • New Mythic tier** above Legendary: nether stars, maxed netherite gear, beacons. Craft four Legendary bags and a
nether star into one, or split any bag back into four of the tier below.
  • Bag Luck** decides how good a bag is. Looting, the Luck attribute, the mob's max health, the Nether (+0.5),
the End (+1) and Hard difficulty (+0.25) all push the odds toward the higher tiers.
  • Tougher mobs drop more often**: the 18% base chance scales from ×0.5 to ×2.5 with the mob's max health.
  • Bad-luck protection** per player: a bag after 12 kills without one, at least a Rare after 20 bags, at least a
Legendary after 200.
  • Bosses** (Wither, Ender Dragon, Warden, Elder Guardian and anything in #c:bosses) always drop three Epic or
better bags, each with a 15% chance to be Mythic.
  • Bag carriers**: some naturally spawned zombies, skeletons, piglins and illagers spawn holding a bag, and always
drop it.
  • Themed loot**: bags dropped in the Nether and the End add Nether or End spoils on top of the normal roll. Any
dimension can get a theme with a datapack table.
  • Fair to farms**: mobs from monster spawners drop a quarter as often; slimes, magma cubes, silverfish and
endermites drop a quarter as often; the chance can be tuned per mob or per entity tag.
  • Pets' kills and arrows count for their owner. Legendary and Mythic drops are announced in chat; Rare and better
bags chime when they drop.

## Opening bags
  • Hold Use to open** (0.8 s, configurable, 0 = instant) with a rustle and particles. **Sneak** to open the whole stack.
  • Loot goes **straight into your inventory**; what doesn't fit drops at your feet. It never lands in the hand you are
opening with, so holding Use can't equip, eat or throw the loot by accident.
  • A **reveal toast** shows what you got; Legendary and Mythic bags flash a title and play a fanfare.
  • Loot previews**: hold Shift over a bag to see what it can give and how likely each item is, sampled from the
server's real loot tables (datapack and modded tables included).
  • Loot beams**: dropped Rare and better bags send up a beam of their tier's colour.
  • New sounds for opening, rustling, drops, tier reveals, the Hourglass, keys and both machines. Every texture is new,
and the Legendary, Mythic and Cursed bags are animated.

## Special bags
  • Cursed**: an ambush of glowing cursed mobs that each drop a bag, a Legendary jackpot, a hex, or a random chaos
event. Every outcome and weig

# Mob Loot Bags — Patch Notes

## 1.11.3

### Additions
  • Minecraft 26.3 support** — Fabric and NeoForge jars for Minecraft 26.3 (mod version remains 1.11.3). NeoForge targets the 26.3 beta loader (26.3.0.16-beta). Fabric declares a Fabric API dependency. No gameplay changes versus the 26.2 line.

### Fixes
  • CurseForge / Modrinth game-version metadata** — republish with the fixed publish detector (PR #11): *-26.1.2-* jars upload with Minecraft **26.1.2** game-version tags instead of **1.21.1**.

### No gameplay changes
  • Behavior on previously supported versions is unchanged from **1.11.2**. The 26.3 workspace is a port of the 26.2 feature set (including config/mlb/ configs); it does not add new items, bags, or blocks.

## 1.11.2 (metadata maintenance)

### Fixes
  • Publish game-version tagging** — calendar Minecraft versions such as 26.1.2 are no longer mis-detected as 1.21.1 when uploading to Modrinth/CurseForge. The old detector only matched 26.X (not 26.X.Y) and fell back to 1.21.1, so mob_loot_bags-*-26.1.2-*.jar files appeared under the 1.21.1 filter while still requiring Minecraft 26.1.2 / Java 25+.
  • NeoForge Minecraft ranges** — 1.20.1 workspace now declares [1.20.1, 1.21); 1.21.1 declares [1.21.1, 1.21.2) (was open to 1.22)).
  • Docs** — README “Which jar do I download?” table clarifies MC × loader filenames.

### Player guidance (1.21.1 Fabric)
  • Prefer jars whose **filename** contains fabric-1.21.1 (for example the May 29 **1.11.0** Fabric build, or a correctly named later 1.11.x Fabric 1.21.1 jar).
  • Ignore listings that show a *-26.1.2-*.jar under a 1.21.1 filter — that file is for Minecraft 26.1.2 only.

### Publisher follow-up
  • Unlist or retag mis-labeled *-26.1.2-* files that still show game version 1.21.1 on Modrinth/CurseForge. Do not re-upload from this PR unless intentionally releasing.

## 1.11.2

### Additions
  • Minecraft 26.2 support** — Fabric and NeoForge jars for Minecraft 26.2 (mod version remains 1.11.2).

### Fixes
  • Minecraft 26.1.2 startup crash** — block/item registration now sets registry IDs (Properties.setId) on Fabric and NeoForge, fixing Block id not set / Item id not set / unbound ResourceKey crashes.
  • 26.1.2 datapacks** — recipes under data/.../recipe/ with 26.1 ingredient/id result schema; pickaxe mineable tag under tags/block/.
  • Opener / recycler break parity (26.1.2)** — container contents (and recycler stored XP) drop via block-entity preRemoveSideEffects, matching vanilla container behavior.

### Credits
  • Registry ID fix approach contributed by **Sami (0x-sami)** in PR #9 (completed for Fabric + common in this release).

### Version note
  • All workspaces ship as **1.11.2**. Code fixes above apply to the **26.1.2** workspace; 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 are version-aligned releases with no registry API change required.

## 1.11.1

### Fixes
  • Timed loot bags** now open the configured timed_lt_name loot table (mob_loot_bags:time_warped_loot_table by default) instead of running cursed-bag random commands (warden summons, trial spawners, etc.).
  • Blacklist / whitelist enable flag** is preserved across restarts; config load no longer rewrites user files with default values on every launch.
  • Mob drops** credit the attacking player
