Particle Interactions

A mod that adds particles to more interactions in the game, such as when placing a block or stripping a log. The aim of this mod is to add particles to almost every interaction in the game while staying as close as possible to the vanilla design and aesthetic!

This mod is fully client side, however, a few particles added by the mod won't spawn when other players use certain items, place certain blocks, etc. Better multiplayer support is planned in the future, which may optionally require the mod to be installed server-side

Every single feature added by this mod can be adjusted or disabled in the mods' config menu or with a resourcepack! To access the config menu, click the Mods button on the title or pause screen (on Fabric you need Mod Menu), click on the Particle Interactions mod, and click the config button

The mod is currently only being actively updated for Minecraft 26.1.2 and 26.2.

This mod is in beta!

Some things may be changed or removed entirely before the full release. If you spot bugs / crashes / other mod incompatibilities, you can report them on the GitHub issue tracker! Please test this with your favourite mods and report any issues or unexpected behaviour on the issue tracker!

Resourcepack Support

As of v0.10, this mod allows resourcepacks to define custom particles for blocks and fluids! The particles that spawn for each type of interaction can also be configured. See the docs for more info

Current Features as of v0.7

! NOTE !: Not all of these features are present in all versions! Check the changelogs for further detail. This section is in the process of being moved to the docs website to be much clearer and with images showcasing each feature.

# 0.10.5

  • Ported to 26.3 NeoForge

## Resourcepack Changes
  • Fixed an issue where exclusions in override rule files did not stack between resourcepacks properly
# 0.10.5

  • Ported to 26.3 NeoForge

## Resourcepack Changes
  • Fixed an issue where exclusions in override rule files did not stack between resourcepacks properly
# 0.10.4

  • Re-implemented axe stripping, hoe tilling, and shovel flattening particles
  • Re-implemented spruce leaves ambient falling needle particles
  • Updated the mod icon to reflect the Wilderness Bound drop
  • Fixed particles jittering when landed on the ground
# 0.10.3

  • Updated to 26.3
  • Added new particles for all the poplar leaf variants
  • Red shrubs now have similar particles to bushes and other flowers
  • KNOWN ISSUES:**
  • Axe stripping, hoe tilling, and shovel flattening particles are currently not implemented
  • Spruce leaves do not show their ambient falling needle particles

# 0.10.2

This version comes with some more minor bug fixes, tweaks to existing particles, and some new resourcepack features

## Changes & Fixes
  • Ambient leaf particles now use the particle override specified for that leaf block
  • Spruce leaves now have falling needles, and azalea leaves now have appropriate falling leaf particles
  • Honey block particles are no longer bouncy
  • Fixed block placement particles sometimes clipping into the block directly above or below
  • Fixed bouncy particles taking an extra tick to bounce instead of immediately after colliding something
  • Particle collision and interaction with fluids should now be much more accurate

## Resourcepack changes
  • Added a new particle origin: block/ambient_leaves. This only works for leaf blocks that already emit particles.
  • Resourcepacks can now define overlays that only apply to certain versions of Particle Interactions
  • Documentation will be available for this on the docs website
  • Added a new physics/bounciness_decay component. This works similarly to other 'X decay' components in that the value is multiplied by the bounciness every time the particle bounces
  • The lifetime_events component has been renamed to events
  • All event actions can now be specified in either the events component or events field of particle appearances
  • Spark particles make use of this to avoid duplicating the particle definition for soul and regular sparks
  • Added a facing_camera_mode field to particle appearances which controls particle billboarding
  • Trying to use an invalid particle override now logs a warning instead of refusing to load the file
  • Fixed the flow_acceleration field in physics/wind_config component not respecting negative values
  • The documentation site is now complete: https://particle-interactions.enchanted.games/rp/introduction.html

# 0.10.1

This version comes with some fixes to bugs that were introduced in v0.10 as well as some smaller new features!

## New features
  • Water splash particles are now biome tinted when an entity enters water
  • Mace smash particles now use the block particle of the block below the particle, instead of always using the block below the entity that was hit
  • Added new particles for slime blocks, these look similar to the vanilla particles but are bouncy
  • Added new particles for honey blocks, these look similar to the vanilla particles but are a bit more slippery and floaty

## Changes
  • Removed the particle render distance sliders from the config screen. The options are still there however they will be fully removed in a future release as they never really worked correctly
  • Z-fighting fix now always applies to particle interactions' particles, the toggle only works on vanilla and most other mod particles now
  • Split the 'General / Compatibility' config group into separate groups
  • Added a link to the Particle Interactions documentation site, note that this is still a WIP but is being actively worked on
  • The config screen can now be opened when not loaded into a world. If you do this item icons in the config screen do not load until you enter a world, this can not and will not be fixed

## Resourcepack changes
  • Added a new particle component physics/intangible_layers which controls whether the particle can collide with terrain or fluids
  • Friction no longer applies to the y velocity value, only x and z.
  • The fluid_splash particle override has been split into water_fluid_splash and lava_fluid_splash, this also applies to the respective block lists
  • There are now notifications ingame if some resourcepack feature have failed to load
  • Resourcepack errors are now logged to the output log in a clearer and more organised way
  • Proper documentation is still being worked on for resourcepack features!** However feel free to poke around the mod files if you're curious how it all works

## Fixes
  • Fix some particles sometimes getting stuck underwater
  • Fix non-buoyant particles sometimes sticking to a fluid surface
  • Added translations for debugging config options

# 0.10.0

This version comes with an absolute ton of internal changes, I don't expect anything to be broken but as always please be sure to report any bugs you may find!

## New resourcepack features
  • Block and fluid particle overrides can now be controlled fully with resourcepacks
  • Resourcepacks can now create new particle types which can be used in particle overrides or other places
  • There are now 'emitter rule' files present in resourcepacks that can be used to control which particles are emitted for certain actions, for example when using a flint and steel
  • Proper documentation will come soon for resourcepack features!** However feel free to poke around the mod files if you're curious how it all works

## General changes
  • Ported to Minecraft 26.2
  • Old config files (from v0.9 only) are now updated automatically, you do not need to reset your config this time! yay!
  • Falling blocks now emit particles based on the particle override when placed above non-solid blocks, this functionality is copied over from an older mod of mine (Better Falling Block Particles)
  • Removed blaze damage particles, these may be added back in the future however they have been removed for now as I'm not happy with how they were implemented
  • Changed the look of lava bucket placement particles to look more similar to lava surface bubble particles
  • Reduced the duration of underwater bubble stream particles
  • Removed some config options related to particle intensity as they were inconsistent with each other, this can now be controlled via resourcepacks instead (as mentioned above proper documentation coming soon)
  • Sugar cane, mangrove root, and bamboo particles now float in water

## Fixes
  • Sprinting on snowy grass blocks now shows snow particles instead of grass #60 #34
  • Fixed mace smash particles not flying up into the air as far as they do in vanilla
  • Hay bales no longer emit red particles sometimes
  • Particles for grass blocks and dirt paths now use colours from custom resourcepack textures instead of always using the vanilla ones

## Changes and fixes since alpha 2
  • Rewritten the particle palette system to be usable for fluids as well as blocks
  • Particle palettes can now be defined per block/fluid state instead of just per block id
  • Added 'texture debug logs' option back to the debug section in the config screen
  • Added a new block/sprinted_on particle origin for block sprinting particles
  • Added a new block/mace_smash particle origin for mace smash particles
  • Added a position_offset field to particle emitters
  • Fixed some entity landing particles falling through the block
  • Renamed particles palettes texture path from namespace:textures/eg_particle_interactions/textures/particle_palettes to namespace:textures/eg_particle_interactions/textures/palettes

  • Renamed particles palettes texture path from namespace:textures/eg_particle_interactions/textures/particle_palettes to namespace:textures/eg_particle_interactions/textures/palettes
