This project is no longer actively updated on Modrinth.
For the latest releases, fixes, and future updates, please use CurseForge.
This mod extends Serene Seasons with additional snow and season behavior.
It is built to work with Project Atmosphere and shares data with it when present.
Important
The message saying that a performance mod is required comes from this mod.
It will be patched in the next update.
Forge is supported only up to 1.20.1.
From 1.20.2 and above, the mod will be NeoForge only.
What this mod does
Snow piling and melting
Snow piles up and melts per player instead of globally.
Snow piling happens during snowfall.
Snow melting removes layers progressively instead of deleting the block.
The mod tracks how many snow layers each block should have and dynamically adds or removes layers.
This system can be buggy for now and will improve over time.
At the first snowfall of early winter, the internal snow counter is reset.
The mod then randomly decides an average snow depth per area and applies it.
Project Atmosphere integration
Designed to work with Project Atmosphere.
Snow piling can be driven by cloud data.
SnowStorm integration is planned and currently in development.
Snow will pile only in areas where clouds actually produced snow.
Better Days integration
With Better days, days and night length change throught out the seasons.
Canadian seasons preset
Season timing follows average Montreal Quebec Canada climate data.
For example, if it is February in real life, the world will be in mid winter.

## Fixed
- Fixed Better Days sleep cycles waking players at an incorrect time. SSP now applies a configurable wake time of 1000 (7:00 AM) after Better Days completes sleep.
# Serene Seasons Plus v5.2.0
## Fixed
- Snow placement now treats the
sereneseasonsplus:snow_replaceableblock tag as the single authority for replacing non-air blocks. - Snow can no longer overwrite protected blocks through vanilla precipitation redirects or delayed world-mutation queues.
- Delayed snow changes now verify that the block still matches the state seen when the change was queued, protecting rails and other blocks placed in the meantime.
- Snow clearing no longer removes unrelated blocks when tracked snow data becomes stale.
- Fixed the config screen applying Minecraft's background blur twice.
- Fixed config-screen sizing, clipped controls, toggle state updates, validation feedback, and NeoForge config saving.
- Updated chunk snow restoration to the current per-storm synchronization behavior used by the other supported versions.
## Changed
- Natural ground-cover replacements are now declared explicitly in the snow-replaceable tag instead of being accepted by a hidden fallback.
- Removed the older snow-deficit and destroyed-column reapplication behavior.
- CurseForge publishing now uses Mod Publisher and produces release uploads for version 5.2.0.

## Added
- Day/night cycles can now be configured beyond seven real-time hours, including a full 24-hour cycle, without synchronizing the world to the computer clock.
## Changed
- Renamed config categories, settings, and in-game labels so their purpose and units are clear.
- Added a plain-language description for every config setting and hover descriptions throughout the in-game config screen.
- On the first launch after updating, the old config is preserved as a backup, a fresh config is generated, and a one-time warning explains the reset.
# Serene Seasons Plus v5.1.3 -> Forge 1.20.1

- Fixed Better Days sleep cycles waking players at an incorrect time. SSP now applies a configurable wake time of 1000 (7:00 AM) after Better Days completes sleep.
# Serene Seasons Plus v5.1.2
## Added
## Changed
- Now use PA's local temperature for player-level atmospheric effects instead of regional temperature. This allows more natural temperature variation based on the local environment, such as biome and elevation.
## Fixed
- Fixed a crash because of bad versioning with PA v0.9.0.0-a

# Serene Seasons Plus v5.1.1 -> 1.20.1 & 1.21.1
## Added
- Snow can now land on leaf canopies instead of only appearing underneath trees.
- Ice is now included in SSP snow processing, including melt handling.
- Storm application now tracks how many storms a chunk has already received instead of relying on destroyed-column reapply checks.
## Changed
- Snow placement now uses the real top surface, including leaves, for column sampling.
- Snow under leaves is no longer treated as exposed sky for placement and melt logic.
- Snow and ice melt checks are stricter and now avoid thawing ice during snowy season cold conditions.
- Chunk snow application now follows the server storm count rather than re-evaluating whether a chunk has the “right” snow amount.
- Active player-driven melt and chunk melt passes now use the same ice-handling rules.
## Fixed
- Snow no longer fails to appear on leaf tops.
- Snow on leaves now melts normally when it should.
- Ice no longer gets processed as if it were hidden snow under a roof.
- Winter ice should no longer slowly melt from the old heat-like fallback behavior.
## Removed
- Removed the old destroyed-column reapply behavior from snow placement and precipitation handling.
- Removed the old “did the player break this exact column” gating from storm reapplication.
## Added

## Highlights
- Snow updates should now appear much faster when chunks load or seasons change.
- Snow placement is safer around important blocks.
- Winter snow can still cover natural ground clutter like grass, tall grass, flowers, ferns, and leaf litter.
- Grass and flower regrowth is more natural and no longer only brings back dandelions.
## Fixed
- Snow should no longer delete important blocks such as rails, buttons, levers, and carpets.
- Improved snow replacement behavior so natural plants can be covered by snow without breaking protected blocks.
- Fixed the old Snow Real Magic compatibility path that could prevent normal snow logic from running correctly.
- Improved Better Days compatibility messaging so users know when SSP is changing Better Days time speeds.
## Improved
- Snow processing is now much more responsive without trying to do all work in one laggy tick.
- Chunk loading snow sync is faster and should feel closer to instant.
- Performance handling for snow replacement and melting has been smoothed out.
- Shared Fabric and Forge screens were cleaned up, reducing duplicate code and future maintenance issues.
## Notes
- THIS BUILD REQUIRES PA OVER 0.9.0.0. If you are using an older version of PA, please update to it. This build was released in preparation for PA v0.9.0.0.
- Better Days dynamic time compatibility is now clearly exposed as a config option.
- On newer versions, Better Days' own seasonal time system is preferred when available.

## Changelog
### Added
- Chunk-load snow reconciliation so chunks can restore expected snow state when they become relevant.
- A staged snow architecture with dedicated services for state access, chunk apply, chunk melt, local active updates, history queries, chunk-load reconciliation, and mutation batching.
- A shared snow column inspector and a pure accumulation policy layer.
- A compatibility boundary for managed snow states, including provider-owned queued mutations.
- Native optional Snow Real Magic support for reading and mutating supported managed snow states during reconciliation and melting.
- Duplicate snow evaluation paths that could schedule the same work more than once.
- Incomplete chunk queue clearing during lifecycle resets.
- Project Atmosphere rain handling so positional precipitation is respected instead of treating rain as global.
- Snow Real Magic coexistence so immersive local SRM snowfall still runs while SS+ avoids fighting it.
- Several cases where tracked snow state and queued world changes could drift more easily than necessary.
- Refactored the snow system away from a single god class toward a long-term reconciler-based design.
CommonSnowBlockFeaturenow acts as a facade that delegates to dedicated services instead of owning most snow behavior directly.- Local active melting now uses bounded sampling instead of the older heavier radius scan.
- Chunk and world snow mutations now flow through a dedicated batch pipeline.
### Notes
- Please report any issues you find on the Discord server: https://discord.gg/2jRhTJgYz4
- Real-time Canadian season sync: aligns sub-seasons to real calendar months (Eastern time) so winter is sharp and other core seasons stay distinct.
- Planned next optimization: add a bounded fast lane for chunk-load and near-player snow so visible accumulation appears sooner without raising global TPS cost.
